Social Media Ad Cost Benchmark By Country

The same campaign, run in two different countries, can cost four or five times more in one than the other. That is not a pricing mistake, it is simply how digital advertising auctions work. Facebook, Instagram and Google Ads all price impressions and clicks through real time bidding, and the going rate shifts with local competition, purchasing power and how many other advertisers are chasing the same audience.

We pulled together the most recent benchmark data we could find for Meta's advertising platforms and Google Ads across eight major markets, and built it into a single comparison tool. Use it below to see what a realistic Facebook, Instagram or Google Ads budget looks like before you launch a campaign in a new market.

How to Use the Benchmark Tool

1. Choose the market you are planning to advertise in.

2. Press "Compare ad costs" to see typical Facebook CPM and CPC, an estimated Instagram CPC, and a typical Google Ads search CPC range.

3. Read the source note under each platform, since Facebook and Google price ads in very different ways and the figures are not directly interchangeable.

4. Use the figures as a starting budget benchmark, then track your own campaign data against them once live.

What the Data Shows

The United States remains the most expensive market across every platform we looked at, with Facebook CPM reported around $23.00 and an average Google Ads search CPC of $5.42 in 2026, up from $5.26 the year before. Australia, Canada, the UK and Germany all sit in a similar upper tier, generally running Facebook CPMs between $10 and $19 and Google Ads CPCs in the $3 to $7 range for competitive keywords.

Western Europe outside the UK runs a little lower. France, for example, reports a Facebook CPM closer to $8, reflecting somewhat less advertiser competition than the US, UK or Germany.

India and Brazil sit at the other end of the scale. Facebook CPM in India runs as low as $2 to $3, and Google Ads clicks in India and wider South and Southeast Asia are commonly quoted between $0.10 and $0.50. Brazil and the wider Latin American market fall in between, with Facebook CPMs around $4 and Google Ads CPCs typically $0.20 to $1.50.

Across every market, Instagram consistently costs more per click than Facebook within the same Meta account, by roughly 1.9 times on average, since Instagram inventory tends to be more competitive and more engagement driven.

Why These Numbers Move Around So Much, Even for the Same Platform

Two separate 2026 benchmark reports on Facebook advertising costs, both drawing on real advertiser data, put the average US Facebook CPM at noticeably different levels, one nearer $16 and another nearer $23. Neither figure is wrong. They come from different samples of advertisers, different mixes of campaign objectives, and different account sizes, and Meta's own auction is built to find the lowest average cost across a whole campaign, not a single fixed rate.

This is worth remembering whenever you see a single headline "Facebook costs $X" statistic. The country comparison matters far more than the exact number, since the gap between, say, the US and India stays wide and consistent across almost every source, even when the absolute figures differ.

Facebook, Instagram Or Google, Which Should You Budget for First

Facebook and Instagram are priced on attention, since you are paying to interrupt someone's feed, which is why costs track engagement and competition for eyeballs. Google Ads is priced on intent, since a search click usually comes from someone actively looking for what you sell, which is a large part of why Google's average CPC often runs higher than Meta's, even in the same country.

A practical starting split for many small businesses is to use Facebook and Instagram for awareness and retargeting, where a lower cost per impression stretches a budget further, and reserve Google Ads for the highest intent searches directly tied to a sale or enquiry, where a higher cost per click is easier to justify against the value of the customer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Instagram more expensive than Facebook for the same ad?

Instagram inventory is generally more competitive and more engagement driven, and Meta's own placement data shows Instagram ads costing roughly 1.9 times more per click than Facebook ads within the same account and auction.

Why is Google Ads often more expensive than Facebook or Instagram?

Google Ads captures active search intent, someone typing exactly what they want, while Facebook and Instagram interrupt a feed. That higher intent on Google typically commands a higher cost per click.

Which country is cheapest to advertise in?

Based on this benchmark, India and wider South and Southeast Asia report the lowest costs across both Meta platforms and Google Ads, though advertisers should also budget for a higher share of low quality traffic in some lower cost markets.

Should I compare my ad costs to the global average?

No. Compare your costs to businesses advertising in the same country and, ideally, the same industry. A global average blends markets that are many multiples apart in price.

Are these figures a guaranteed price?

No. They are benchmark ranges drawn from published 2025 and 2026 industry data. Your actual cost depends on your industry, audience, creative quality, campaign objective and the time of year.

Final Thoughts

Social media and search advertising costs vary enormously by country, and treating a single global number as your budget baseline will leave you either overspending in a cheap market or underbudgeting in an expensive one. Use the benchmark above to set a realistic starting point for your market, then let your own campaign data refine it from there.
